businesses, give or take, is what an assistant names. 72% of consumers consider three or fewer and decide within 30 minutes.
BrightLocal, 2026
The AC dies. The homeowner asks an assistant.
A homeowner in 75034 opens ChatGPT or Gemini on a Saturday and types what they would have typed into Google, with more detail. My AC is out, it is 101 degrees, who can come today and what will it cost. The assistant searches, opens a handful of sites, reads your Google profile, and answers with about three names and a reason for each.
That answer is the whole shortlist. Most people check Google to confirm the names, then call. The companies that never appear in the answer never get the call, however many five star reviews they have.
“Reviews get you considered. A price, open times and a way to book get you picked.”
What is costing HVAC companies the pick
We ran the questions homeowners ask through Grok, Meta Muse and Instinct in Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Tampa and Albuquerque, and we read what the assistants said about every company they opened. The same few failures came up again and again.
- 01
No price anywhere
Call for a quote is a dead end for an assistant that was asked what it will cost. A starting price, a diagnostic fee, or a replacement range with financing is what it needs to name you.
- 02
Booking that only works for a human
A phone tree, a Schedule online link that is plain text, or a scheduler that loads on click and nowhere else. Assistants that cannot see an opening move to the next company.
- 03
A service area it cannot confirm
The assistant has a ZIP code. If your site does not say you serve it, you are a risk, and a risk does not get named.
- 04
Hours and phone numbers that disagree
Two sets of hours across your site, Google and Yelp reads as unreliable. Consistency is one of the six things an assistant checks before it moves on.
- 05
A site that breaks under an agent
Fifteen minutes of site errors cost one HVAC company with 1,800 five star reviews the job in our runs. The assistant gave up and moved on to a competitor.
What wins the pick in HVAC
In our own probes across twelve home service verticals, 97% of the businesses an assistant named were picked from their own websites, not from Angi or Thumbtack. For plumbing, Google profiles carry 54% of AI citations and Angi 2%. The assistant is reading what you publish, and what you publish is yours to change.
The company that wins is the one that answers the question the homeowner asked. A published starting price or replacement range with named financing. Openings the assistant can see, and a way to request one it can complete. The ZIP codes you serve, in text. Hours and a phone number that agree everywhere it looks.
One of our clearest runs was a company with 100 reviews beating one with 3,000. It was the only one that published a starting price and named its lender.
What we do for an HVAC company
- 01
Run the real questions, monthly
Your customers' questions, in your metro, through the assistants people actually use, against the companies that beat you. You see who got named and, in the assistant's own words, why.
- 02
Publish the deciding fact
The starting price, the replacement range, the diagnostic fee, the financing. Written so an assistant finds it on the first pass and a homeowner trusts it.
- 03
Make booking work for an agent
A path from the assistant to a requested visit that needs no phone tree. On Picked we rebuild it end to end and tag every AI-sourced call and form so you see picks become jobs in your own numbers.
- 04
Fix the profile and the directories
Google Business Profile, Yelp and the directories the assistants cite, made consistent with your site. Service area, hours, phone, categories.
- 05
Keep measuring as the assistants change
New failures found and fixed every month. A pick report each month with what moved.
Who this is for
Residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies doing replacements and big repairs, from a single shop of $5M and up to a regional group with a dozen branches or a platform adding companies every quarter. If you already pay Google $30 to $85 a lead through Local Services Ads, the assistant's shortlist is the next channel, and it is free once you are on it.
We are not a replacement for your agency. They run your ads and your SEO. We make sure the assistant names you, and we prove it.
HVAC marketing as usual vs Picked by Agents
| HVAC marketing as usual | Picked by Agents | |
|---|---|---|
| What it measures | Rankings, clicks, cost per lead | Whether the assistant named you, and why, every month |
| Where the customer decides | A page of ten blue links and an ad auction | One answer with about three names |
| What it fixes | Content volume, backlinks, ad spend | The price, the booking path, the service area, the profile |
| Proof | A traffic report | The assistant's own words, then AI-sourced calls in your call tracking |
| Price | $2,000 to $4,000 a month for AI search work, on top of SEO | $2,997 or $4,997 a month, month to month, guaranteed |
| When it stops working | When you stop paying for ads | The fixes stay on your site. You keep them if you leave. |
Questions we get asked
- Do homeowners really ask AI assistants for an HVAC company?
- Yes, and the share is growing fast. BrightLocal found 45% of US consumers had used an AI tool for local business recommendations in the past year, up from 6% the year before, and 23% used one in their most recent local search. Google, ChatGPT, Alexa and Meta Muse all added home service booking or calling in 2026. Home services got more of those launches than any other local category.
- We have hundreds of five star reviews. Is that not enough?
- Reviews get you into the set the assistant considers. They rarely decide the pick. In our runs the assistant asks about price, availability, service area and a way to book, and a company with no price loses to one with fewer reviews that publishes a starting price and names its financing.
- What does the first month look like?
- We start with the free report, which shows who the assistants named for your customers' questions and why they passed on you. Then the first 60 days is the fix sprint. We publish the deciding facts, repair the booking path, and make your profile and directories consistent. Every agreed fix ships within 30 days or that month is free.
- How is the guarantee measured?
- Before we start we agree the questions, the ZIP codes and the assistants, and we record a baseline. We run them repeatedly, not once, so a lucky mention does not count. If you are not being named within 90 days we keep working free until you are.
- Do we have to publish our prices?
- You have to publish something the assistant can use. A starting price, a diagnostic fee, a replacement range with financing. Most companies we test are afraid of being shopped on price, and lose to the company that published a range. We help you choose a number you can stand behind.
- Does this replace our agency or our ads?
- No. Keep your agency and your Local Services Ads. We sit alongside them and fix the one thing they do not measure, whether the assistant names you when a homeowner asks. Many of our fixes make your ads convert better too.
