> Meta AI picks local businesses on reviews first, then speed, price and licenses. Here is what it read across 5,198 recorded answers and how to get named.

We recorded 5,198 of its answers across 1,141 markets. Reviews and ratings came up in 64% of its picks, and it read the winner's own website 80% of the time.

## Where Meta AI gets local business information

Meta AI lives inside WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and the Meta AI app. Since April 2026 it runs on Meta's Muse Spark model, which Meta rolled out to those apps through May. Our research network runs this assistant, and we call it Meta Muse.

For a local question it searches the web and reads pages. In 2024 Meta said Meta AI used both Google and Bing for web results. Meta has not said publicly whether that is still the setup in 2026, so treat it as history, not a rule.

Meta also pulls from its own apps. Its May 2026 update says Meta AI can pull up recommendations from Reels, maps and more, and that tapping a location shows public posts from locals who know the area.

In our recorded answers, the sites it cited most, leaving out the businesses' own websites, were pro.porch.com (9% of answers), angi.com (8%), homeadvisor.com (8%), reviews.birdeye.com (8%) and expertise.com (7%), then thumbtack.com, threebestrated.com and yelp.com at 4% each. Those are the places it checks you against.

## What Meta AI weighs when it picks

Every pick comes with a stated reason. Across its picks, the share whose reason mentioned each thing was reviews and ratings 64%, speed and availability 50%, price and financing 41%, licenses and credentials 36%, experience and history 33%, local or family owned 19%, and specific service match 14%. One reason can mention several.

Here is how it explained real picks, word for word. For a broken garage spring in Albuquerque it picked A1 Garage Door Service Albuquerque because it "Scored 119/120 on inspection, open 24 hours with 24-hour emergency spring repair service." For recurring ants it picked Hadlow Pest Solutions for "5.0 ratings on HomeAdvisor and Angi, an Associate Certified Entomologist on staff, published pricing of $75-$300 per service and ~$40/month ongoing plans, plus 24/7 emergency response."

Notice the pattern. Each reason is a fact it could read somewhere. A rating with a review count, hours, a price range, a credential. It does not reward vague claims. It rewards specifics it can repeat.

> Rated 4.9 from 333 reviews in a published 10-best Albuquerque HVAC ranking, a family-owned shop listed as open around the clock.

## Step by step, how to get Meta AI to name you

1. **Get your rating and review count onto the sites it reads** Ask recent customers for reviews on Google and on the directories Meta AI cited most, Porch, Angi, HomeAdvisor and Yelp. It quotes ratings with counts, so the count matters as much as the stars.
2. **Claim and complete your directory profiles** Log in to pro.porch.com, Angi and HomeAdvisor for pros, Thumbtack and Yelp for Business. Match your phone, hours, services and service area to your website, word for word.
3. **Say when you can come, on your site** Speed showed up in half its picks. Put your hours, same day or emergency service where true, and your typical lead time on your homepage and each service page, in plain text.
4. **Publish a price or a price range** Add a starting price or a range to each service page, and your financing terms if you offer them. 41% of its picks cited price or financing.
5. **Show your license and credentials** Put your license number, certifications and insurance on your About page and in your site footer. It cited licenses and credentials in 36% of picks.
6. **Keep your website readable** It read the winner's own site in 80% of picks. Make sure your service pages load fast, work without a login or pop up, and state the facts above as text, not inside images.
7. **Post on your Facebook and Instagram pages** Meta says Meta AI draws on Reels and public posts from its apps. Keep your business Page and Instagram profile current with your hours, area and recent work.

## How to check whether Meta AI recommends you today

Open the Meta AI app or start a chat with Meta AI in WhatsApp. Ask what a customer would ask, with your city or ZIP code. For example, "Who is the best AC repair company in Albuquerque, NM 87111?" or "My water heater is leaking. Find a plumber in Albuquerque, NM who can replace it this week, with a price." Those are real questions from our network.

Write down who it names and the reason it gives for each. Then ask again tomorrow and from another phone. Answers vary, so one test proves little. If it skips you, the reason it gave the winner tells you what to fix.

Our free pick report does this for you. We run your customers' questions in Meta Muse and the other assistants in our network, then show who was named, the reasons, and the gaps on your side.

## Questions

### How does Meta AI choose which businesses to recommend?

It searches, reads a handful of options and names one with a reason. In 5,198 recorded answers it weighed 7.0 businesses on average, and the most common reasons were reviews and ratings (64% of picks), speed and availability (50%) and price and financing (41%).

### Does Meta AI use Google or Bing?

In 2024 Meta said Meta AI used both for web results. Meta has not confirmed the 2026 setup publicly. In our answers it cited directories like Porch, Angi, HomeAdvisor and Birdeye most, plus the businesses' own websites.

### Is Meta AI the same in WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook?

Meta says the same Muse Spark model powers Meta AI across the Meta AI app, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, rolled out from April to May 2026. Results can still differ between chats, so test more than once.

### Can I pay to show up in Meta AI recommendations?

Not that Meta has announced for local recommendations. The picks we recorded came with reasons drawn from reviews, websites and directories, so those are where the work goes.

### Do Facebook reviews help with Meta AI?

Meta has not published how it weighs its own reviews. What we can show is that reviews and ratings were the top reason in its picks, and the ratings it quoted often came from HomeAdvisor, Angi and ranking sites. Keep reviews coming everywhere customers leave them.

### How long does it take for Meta AI to pick up changes?

It reads pages live when it searches, so a fixed website can show up quickly. Directory updates take longer to be re-read. Re-ask the same questions after a few weeks and compare the reasons.
